Chelsea identify potential new leaders with Thiago Silva likely having played final game for club

Thiago Silva hurt his groin, and it might mean he won’t play for Chelsea again.

Because Thiago can’t play tonight against Tottenham, Chelsea doesn’t have many options for center-backs. Axel Disasi also not available. So, they’ll probably have Trevoh Chalobah and Benoit Badiashile play together.

But the real problem is what happens after Thiago leaves. He’s been a big leader for Chelsea, and they need to figure out how to replace him.

Even though people worry that Chelsea’s team is too young and doesn’t have enough leaders, the club thinks Ben Chilwell and Reece James can step up. They’ve been impressive, even though they’ve had some injuries.

Ben Chilwell is good at talking and helping others. He’s been helping Mykhailo Mudryk adjust to life in London and English soccer.

Reece James is more quiet, but he’s a good example for others. He was made captain last summer and has been training lightly after his hamstring surgery. Both Reece and Ben are often with the team at Cobham.

Conor Gallagher has been doing a good job as captain while Ben and Reece are out. He showed his leadership skills by sorting out a disagreement last month. But we’re not sure what will happen with him after this season.

Even former manager Frank Lampard thought Enzo Fernandez could become a leader in the future.

Mauricio Pochettino says it’s up to him and his coaches to help develop leaders in the team. Chelsea is confident that new leaders will step up when needed.
