Phil Foden and Khadija Shaw, both from Manchester City, won big at the FWA Footballer of the Year awards.

Foden had a great season with 24 goals and 10 assists in 48 games for City. He got 42 percent of the votes from football journalists and FWA members. Declan Rice from Arsenal and Rodri from City came second and third. Others in the top six were Martin Odegaard, Ollie Watkins, and Cole Palmer.

In the women’s category, Shaw was on fire until she got a broken foot last week. She’s leading the WSL scoring with 21 goals for City, who are close to winning the WSL title. She and Lauren James, who came second, got 80 percent of the votes together. Alex Greenwood was third.

Foden said, “It’s a big deal to be named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year. I’m really happy about it, but I couldn’t have done it without my teammates. We have a great squad, and I’m lucky to be part of it.”

“I’m focused on finishing the season strong and helping City win more trophies.”

Shaw said, “It’s an honor to be recognized like this.”

“I also want to thank Gareth Taylor, the coaches, and everyone else at City. Thanks to everyone who voted.”

They’ll get their trophies at the Footballer of the Year dinner in London on May 16.
