If Chelsea doesn’t make it into European competitions, the coach, Mauricio Pochettino, might be in a tricky spot. He wants the club to consider the long list of injured players when they decide whether to keep him or not.

Pochettino is uncertain about his future. The big bosses and directors will sit down with him to talk it over. They’ll look at how the season went and decide what to do next.

If Chelsea doesn’t get into Europe, it’s not good news for Pochettino. He hasn’t won any big trophies in his first year coaching at Chelsea.

Injuries have been a huge problem for Chelsea. Pochettino wants this to be part of the talk about his job. Even though some injured players returned for a game against West Ham, Chelsea still has eight players out.

This season, Chelsea has faced more injuries than Pochettino has ever seen in his coaching career. He tried to prepare for it by checking the injury history of the players before taking the job.

Pochettino made sure the players were fit for the tough Premier League with a hard training program in the US before the season started. But Chelsea couldn’t keep up the same level of play as Pochettino’s old teams did.

Even though Chelsea tried to prevent injuries with special training and monitoring, they still had a lot of players get hurt.

Pochettino won’t blame anyone for the injuries, not even the medical staff. He thinks they’re doing their best. Some players like Nicolas Jackson, Moises Caicedo, Conor Gallagher, and Cole Palmer have managed to play full seasons despite the challenges.

The medical team is getting better, but they’re still looking for someone to lead the performance medicine department after a long-time director and a physiotherapist left the club.
