Strategic Play: Chelsea Eyes Investment Boost by Selling Women’s Team Stake

Chelsea’s women’s team might get some new friends soon! They’ve got two offers from folks who want to help them get even better. These offers aren’t about selling the whole team, though. Nope, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, who share ownership of the team, just want to raise some cash to make the team even cooler.

See, the team’s been winning a bunch of titles in the Women’s Super League (WSL), and now they need more space to play and more ways to tell everyone how awesome they are. Chelsea might take a page out of Lyon’s playbook, a big French team, who got even bigger by teaming up with a team in Seattle.

Chelsea’s owners are also thinking about making more teams in other places like North America and Europe. They want to spread the word about Chelsea Women everywhere!

Now, some folks think Chelsea’s women’s team is worth a lot of money, even more than £150 million! But that’s just because they’ve been doing so well. Chelsea’s been compared to Angel City, a team in the US that’s worth a whole bunch too.

Back in 2022, when Boehly and Clearlake bought Chelsea, they promised to make the women’s team a big deal. And now, they’re still keeping that promise.

Right now, Chelsea’s women’s team is fighting to win another WSL title. After that, their coach, Emma Hayes, is off to coach the US women’s national team. She’s been leading Chelsea for 12 years, making them the best in England for most of that time.
