Eight-Man Shortlist Announced for Premier League 2 Player of the Year

Chelsea, Tottenham, and West Ham each have players in the running for the Premier League 2 Player of the Year award.

As the Under-21 season wraps up, the semi-finals for the league play-offs are just around the corner, and the 2023-24 champion will soon be decided. Tottenham topped the table in the regular season and lead the nominations with three players on the shortlist: Jamie Donley, Will Lankshear, and Jude Sunsoop-Bell.

Will Lankshear, 19, has been a standout, scoring 20 goals this season, including a crucial extra-time winner against Aston Villa in the quarter-finals. Attacking midfielder Jamie Donley is also a top contender with six goals and 13 assists.

West Ham, who finished second in the table, have two players nominated: George Earthy, who recently scored his first goal for the senior team, and Callum Marshall. Despite their strong season, West Ham was knocked out in the quarter-finals by Sunderland in a penalty shootout.

Chelsea’s nominee, Leo Castledine, has also gained some first-team experience this season. The shortlist is rounded out by Reading U21 captain Michael Stickland and Nottingham Forest defender Zach Abbott.

The semi-finals are set with Spurs facing Chelsea on Sunday, followed by Reading against Sunderland on Monday evening.
