Chelsea Football Club is starting a fresh chapter with Enzo Maresca, the successful ex-Leicester coach, now at the helm.

Frank Lampard, a Chelsea icon, has advised fans to be patient as Maresca takes over. The club has high hopes for Maresca, who has signed on for five years, stepping in after Mauricio Pochettino.

Maresca, who once worked with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, is seen as a kindred spirit to Mikel Arteta of Arsenal, known for reviving the team’s fortunes. At 44, Maresca is seen as the perfect choice by Chelsea’s leadership, which has witnessed a rapid turnover of managers since new owners took over in May 2022.

The club is impressed by Maresca’s dynamic leadership and his style of football that emphasizes control and possession, traits they highly value.

After Pochettino left, directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart saw Maresca as their top pick, not just for his promising career trajectory but also for his readiness to fit into the club’s structure.

While Maresca will have a say in the summer transfers, he won’t be in charge of recruitment. His main focus will be on enhancing the team’s performance through coaching.

Pochettino was brought in to replace Graham Potter, following Lampard’s temporary stint. Lampard, speaking with talkSPORT, reflected on the season’s strong finish and the challenges ahead. He emphasized the need for patience and support for Maresca as he evaluates and potentially reshapes the squad.

Looking forward to the new season, Lampard noted the positive momentum with which the team ended the last season.

In a sign of the new direction under Maresca, Chelsea has signed Tosin Adarabioyo, the former Fulham defender, to a four-year deal, marking the first acquisition of this new era.
