Newcastle United has signed Lewis Hall from Chelsea in a £28 million permanent deal, following his successful loan spell last season.

Hall, a 19-year-old left-back, made 22 appearances for Newcastle and scored twice during his loan. He started at Chelsea’s academy when he was just eight and signed his first professional deal in 2021. Hall made 12 first-team appearances for Chelsea, debuting in an FA Cup match against Chesterfield in January 2022.

Although Hall grew up in Berkshire, he has always been a Newcastle fan, as his father and uncle are from the North East.

Expressing his joy about the permanent move, Hall said, “I am extremely proud to build on last season and continue my journey at Newcastle United. The fans, the manager and his staff, my teammates, and everyone at the club have made me feel so welcome that I want to repay the faith they’ve shown in me. Wearing the black and white shirt and playing in front of the best supporters in the country is extra special for me as a Toon fan. I gained a lot of experience last season, and with the squad we have, we’ll be looking to push on even further this season. I can’t wait to get started.”

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe praised Hall, saying, “Lewis was a great addition to our squad last season. We have been delighted with his progress and his contribution to the team. I’m very pleased to continue working with him. Besides being a talented player, he has a great attitude towards the game and his development. I’m excited for this next part of his journey in a Newcastle United shirt.
