There was no ‘on this day’ yesterday as there was no real notable fixture in recent years. Chelsea did draw 0-0 to Norwich January 6th but that’s not really much of a story.
On this day in 2022, Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea kicked off the FA Cup campaign by beating non league side Chesterfield at Stamford Bridge.
Tuchel opted for a strong XI overall which saw five different players get on the scoresheet.
Goals from Werner, Hudson-Odoi & Lukaku gave Chelsea a 3-0 lead inside 20 minutes with Christensen & Ziyech adding to the scoreline before the hour mark.
The visitors did grab a goal back with 10 minutes to go, a goal which was also the loudest cheered goal of the night.
