Maatsen set for Dortmund loan but Chelsea might yet have the final say…

It looks like the window is about to see its first big exit from Stamford Bridge.

One of the players whose future is uncertain is nearing the end of his Chelsea career. Ian Maatsen is set to leave Stamford Bridge soon.

The Dutch fullback’s loan move to Borussia Dortmund with wages paid has been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano’s signature ‘here we go’.

The loan deal has an interesting clause. Maatsen has played 12 times for Pochettino’s team this season, mostly as a substitute, and his Chelsea contract expires in 18 months.

But according to Luca Bendoni from the DiMarzio team, Chelsea have negotiated an option to extend his contract by one year until June 2026. The option will be activated at the end of the season.

Matt Law from The Telegraph also supports Luca’s report, saying that Chelsea will receive a £2m loan fee for Maatsen and expect him to sign a new contract with them.
