Casadei made to wait for Chelsea debut

Chelsea have brought back Cesare Casadei from his loan spell at Leicester City, but the midfielder will have to wait for his chance to play for the blues.

Casadei returned to Chelsea on Friday, just before a busy week of cup competitions. However, the reason for his recall is unclear. The Italian was supposed to face Ipswich on Monday in a vital clash for the Championship top spot.

Casadei has featured in 22 games for the league leaders, netting 2 goals. His last goal came in Leicester’s FA Cup win over Millwall.

Since Casadei has already played in domestic cups this season, he is ineligible for both Tuesday’s Carabao Cup match and Friday’s FA Cup game. His first opportunity to play for Chelsea is at Liverpool in the Premier League at the start of next month.

Pochettino confirmed this in his press conference today. He said to the media (via Chelsea FC), “Tomorrow, it isn’t possible because he played in the Carabao Cup with Leicester, and for Friday he isn’t available too. In the Premier League, maybe he can be involved and part of the squad.”

This raises the question of why Chelsea recalled Casadei when he could have stayed at Leicester for a few more games.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have also cut short Diego Moreira’s loan at Lyon and he has rejoined the squad at Cobham. Pochettino wanted to reduce the size of his squad by the end of the transfer window, but now he may have to deal with some extra players.
