Chelsea: Petr Cech tells fans when Blues will ‘realistically’ next be in title race after Todd Boehly spending

The Blues co-owner has spent a lot of money, more than anyone else in the world, but the team hasn’t been consistently good on the field.

Petr Cech, a Chelsea legend, has told fans how long it might take for the club to compete for the Premier League title again under Mauricio Pochettino and Todd Boehly.

Chelsea hasn’t really been in the running for the title since they won it in 2016-17 under Antonio Conte. Manchester City has been dominating, Liverpool won once, and Arsenal is back as a contender after a long time.

Boehly, one of the owners, wanted to make Chelsea one of the best teams in English football after buying the club in 2022. He’s spent over £1 billion on players since then, but last season they finished 12th, and this season they’re still not doing great.

Cech used to work at Chelsea before Boehly took over. He thinks Chelsea will get better, but it might take some time.

“This season isn’t going as well as they hoped,” Cech said on Sky Sports. “If they finish this season strong and prepare well for the next one, maybe they can aim for the top four.

“The season after that is when they might realistically challenge for the title.”

He also said, “The takeover changed a lot. There’s a new owner with new ideas about how to run the club. It takes time for everyone to adjust to that—players, staff, everyone.

“The team has changed a lot since I was there. New players came in, and that can be tough, especially when they were expensive. The team is young, and they might struggle with the pressure.

“Recently, the team hasn’t had a stable core. The goalkeeper, defense, midfield, and attack have all been changing. There’s a lot of potential, but the coaches haven’t found the right mix yet to make the team solid.
