Chelsea: Antonio Conte reveals huge double transfer push that would have made club ‘dominant’

Antonio Conte, who coached Chelsea to their last Premier League title in the 2016-17 season, believes the team could have continued their success if they had signed two key players during his time.

Conte led Chelsea to victory in the league, finishing ahead of Tottenham by seven points. He made important tactical changes after losses to Liverpool and Arsenal, which had a big impact on the team’s performance.

However, Chelsea couldn’t maintain their success in the following season, finishing fifth and missing out on Champions League qualification. Conte was sacked after two years, despite winning the FA Cup against Manchester United.

Since then, Chelsea has had multiple managers and mixed results. Conte thinks that with the right signings, Chelsea could have dominated English football, similar to Manchester City under Pep Guardiola.

Conte wanted to sign Romelu Lukaku and Virgil van Dijk, but deals couldn’t be finalized. Liverpool signed Van Dijk for £75 million, and Lukaku chose Manchester United over Chelsea. While Van Dijk succeeded at Liverpool, Lukaku struggled at Manchester United before finding success at Inter Milan. He rejoined Chelsea in 2021 but hasn’t matched his Serie A form in the Premier League.
