Chelsea: Nowhere to hide for Mauricio Pochettino and Todd Boehly after familiar failings in Carabao Cup final

Losing to Liverpool isn’t something to be ashamed of, but Chelsea missed a big opportunity in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

The owners, Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, were probably hoping for a win as Liverpool seemed tired and vulnerable.

However, despite Liverpool missing many key players and even losing one to injury, Chelsea couldn’t capitalize. Virgil van Dijk scored the only goal after a long and tough game, securing the win for Liverpool.

Chelsea did have chances, with Conor Gallagher hitting the post and missing a one-on-one opportunity. Cole Palmer also had shots saved by Liverpool’s goalkeeper Caomhin Kelleher.

Even when Chelsea brought on new talents, they couldn’t make a difference. Mykhailo Mudryk, Christopher Nkunku, and Noni Madueke didn’t have much impact.

This loss raises questions about Chelsea’s ability to seize opportunities and Mauricio Pochettino’s performance as manager. The owners might face criticism too, especially for not signing a striker despite spending a lot of money on the team.

Chelsea’s recent progress doesn’t count for much without trophies, and their chances of qualifying for Europe are now uncertain. Losing six domestic cup finals in a row paints a disappointing picture for the club.

Time is running out for Pochettino, the owners, and some players to turn things around this season.
