Chelsea might have to give Brighton up to £7.65 million because of a decision made by a group called the FA tribunal.

This group decided that Chelsea owes money for two young players they signed from Brighton. One player is a 19-year-old named Zak Sturge, who plays defense, and the other is a 16-year-old striker named Shumaira Mheuka.

For Mheuka, Chelsea needs to pay £1 million at first, but it could go up to £4.25 million later. To get the full amount, Mheuka has to play 100 games for Chelsea and also get picked to play for the England national team.

Sturge’s fee is £3.15 million, but he can get more if he plays for England too, with an extra £250,000 on the line.

These two players joined Chelsea in 2022, right after the club was bought by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital. Even though they were signed by the academy, not directly by the new owners, Chelsea has spent around £225 million on players and staff from Brighton since the takeover.

This is more than twice the amount spent to build Brighton’s current stadium, the Amex Stadium. Both Sturge and Mheuka are still with Chelsea, with Sturge spending some time on loan at another club and Mheuka playing for Chelsea’s youth team.
