Mauricio Pochettino said he was really happy with how hard his Chelsea players worked in their 2-2 draw against Brentford.

The Blues didn’t do so well in their efforts to qualify for European competitions on Pochettino’s tough 52nd birthday at the Gtech Community Stadium last Saturday.

Chelsea fans at the game were criticizing Pochettino and Todd Boehly, and were also cheering for Jose Mourinho and Roman Abramovich.

Axel Disasi saved the day with a goal in the 83rd minute, but Chelsea is now 19 points behind the top four teams, putting more pressure on Pochettino.

Pochettino was disappointed that his team didn’t win, but he praised their hard work, especially after playing three games in just six days, including a tough loss in the Carabao Cup Final against Liverpool.

“We showed a lot of character, and that’s why I’m really happy,” he said. “We didn’t get the win, which is disappointing, but considering we played three games in six days, the effort was huge. Now we have to keep going.

“The team put in a fantastic effort, and that’s something to be happy about. The game was really tough. Our character was good, and we came close to winning. I’m happy with the effort, and we have to keep going.”

Pochettino also admitted that he doesn’t feel much support from Chelsea fans. “We played well in the first half, but in the second half, Brentford played more direct, and we struggled. But we showed character, and that’s important because we’re still developing as a team. We have to remember, playing three games in six days was tough. The team deserved more.
