Another weekend, another important test for Mauricio Pochettino’s job security as head coach of Chelsea.

Pochettino is determined not to give up on winning over frustrated fans. The upcoming FA Cup quarter-final against Leicester on Sunday is a golden opportunity for him to win back support.

There are some positive signs, with certain players showing promise after a recent 3-2 victory against Newcastle at home. Mykhailo Mudryk scored a fantastic late goal, Cole Palmer impressed again with a goal and an assist, and Nicolas Jackson skillfully flicked a long-range shot into the net.

Right-back Malo Gusto has been performing well and could be a strong contender for Chelsea’s player of the season award alongside Palmer. Axel Disasi has been consistent and now partners Trevoh Chalobah in defense.

In midfield, there’s a solid partnership forming between Enzo Fernandez, Conor Gallagher, and Moises Caicedo. Goals are also coming from the attacking end.

However, Chelsea still faces challenges with eight key players sidelined due to injury, including Christopher Nkunku, Reece James, and Ben Chilwell. Chilwell might make a return from a knee injury after being named in England’s squad.

There have been positive changes behind the scenes too. Bernardo Cueva from Brentford is set to join and lead a new set-piece department. Other notable appointments include Sam Jewell from Brighton, Josh Marsh from Swansea, and Owen Eastwood, a former FA culture consultant.

Despite these improvements, Chelsea’s league form has been inconsistent, with recent matches against Newcastle and Brentford showing vulnerabilities. They currently sit 11th in the table.

The pressure is on Pochettino, but the majority of the squad supports him and is working hard to improve performance.

Pochettino has prioritized domestic cup competitions, fielding his strongest team in each game, offering Chelsea a chance to secure silverware amidst a turbulent season.

However, Leicester will be a tough opponent, especially after seeing Chelsea’s narrow win against Leeds in the previous round. In knockout competitions, Chelsea can’t afford any mistakes, as their season hangs in the balance.
