Conor Gallagher thinks that taking on more responsibility as a leader at Chelsea has given him a better chance of being chosen for England’s Euro 2024 team this summer.

Despite a season full of ups and downs at Stamford Bridge, and all the talk about his future, Gallagher has been one of Chelsea’s most consistent players.

Even though Mauricio Pochettino’s team is not doing great in the Premier League, they only lost on penalties to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final in February. They’re also heading to Wembley for an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City next month.

Gallagher’s good performance earned him a spot in Saturday night’s big game against Brazil. He’s hopeful that his ability to handle a tough season with Chelsea will impress Gareth Southgate when it comes to picking the final squad.

“I believe that going through tough times, whether it’s with your club or your country, helps you grow as a player,” Gallagher said. “Playing in important matches like the cup games with Chelsea has definitely taught me a lot. I’ve had to step up and be a leader this season, which I’ve really enjoyed. It’s made me a better player.”

“It’s always a plus when you’re playing well for your club. That’s what Gareth and the others will be looking at. I’ll keep giving my best for Chelsea and hope for a chance to be in that squad.”

Despite his good form, Gallagher’s future at Chelsea is uncertain. His contract ends next season, and because he came up through the academy, selling him could bring in a lot of money for the club. This would help Chelsea deal with financial rules they need to follow.

But Gallagher isn’t letting the uncertainty distract him. “When the time comes, I’ll be focused on England and doing my best for the team,” he said.
