Chelsea had a surprising victory over Barcelona in the Women’s Champions League semi-final first leg. Erin Cuthbert scored the winning goal for Chelsea, giving them a 1-0 win. This win puts Chelsea closer to their first European title, a big goal for their team.

Even though Barcelona had been unbeaten at home since February 2019, Chelsea managed to take the lead. Sjoeke Nusken passed the ball to Cuthbert, who then shot it into the top corner of the net in the 40th minute.

Barcelona had control of the game early on, having 66% of the possession. However, they struggled to score against Chelsea’s strong defense.

In the second half, Barcelona was awarded a penalty for a handball, but it was overturned after a VAR check showed an offside player during the build-up.

Near the end of the game, Barcelona almost scored with Salma Paralluelo, and Alexia Putellas missed a great opportunity.

Later that day, Olympique Lyonnais and Paris St Germain played in an all-French semi-final first leg. Lyon is a record eight-time champion, so it’s a big match in the tournament.
