Three clubs, in addition to Arsenal, were interested in signing the Polish defender in January, according to Jakub Kiwior’s agent.

The £18 million acquisition of Kiwior from Spezia by the Gunners last month improved Mikel Arteta’s defensive options..

The 22-year-old signed a three-and-a-half year contract at the Emirates Stadium after playing for Poland at the World Cup in Qatar.

Although Kiwior has not yet played for Arsenal, he was spotted watching the exciting 3-2 victory over Manchester United from the stands.

A player with “great potential and qualities,” according to Arteta, Kiwior’s agency claims that three Serie A heavyweights were also interested in signing Kiwior in January.

‘All the important Italian clubs other than Inter Milan showed interest, including Napoli, AC Milan and Juventus,’ Sasha Baranov told TV Play.

‘However, with Napoli’s current situation, they didn’t need to change their team in January and wanted to continue talks in the summer.

‘You all know what happened at Juventus, while Milan also waited, and you know what happens when the Premier League clubs come in.

‘When a side like Arsenal come along, it becomes difficult for a 22-year-old to say no. If it was Juventus or another big club coming in, it may well have been the same situation, but Arsenal are the only side who really pushed the talks forward.

‘We honestly didn’t expect it to all move so fast, we thought he would stay in January and leave Spezia in June.

‘Arsenal came in and the player did not put pressure on his club, he just said that if the move was to happen, then good, otherwise he was happy to wait.’

Kiwior joins the Gunners squad that is atop the Premier League standings and will face off against Arsenal defender Gabriel for a spot in Arteta’s side.

After adding Kiwior as their first January addition, Arsenal signed Leandro Trossard of Belgium and Jorginho of Italy.

On Saturday, the Gunners travel to Goodison Park to take on relegation-threatened Everton as part of their ongoing Premier League title defense.
