Arsenal forced to don Chelsea kit in WSL match as sock fiasco delays kick-off

The Women’s Super League had an unexpected delay in the match between Chelsea and Arsenal. The problem? Both teams showed up wearing kits that clashed.

Arsenal came in their usual red shirts, white shorts, and white socks, but Chelsea also had white socks, which caused confusion. So, Arsenal had to find new socks before they could start the game.

Luckily, Chelsea’s club shop had black socks with blue details and Chelsea logos that Arsenal could use. They taped over the Chelsea logos and got ready to play. But all this took time, so the game started half an hour later than planned.

Usually, there’s no issue with kit clashes between these teams, as Arsenal often wears red socks, and Chelsea wears blue ones. But this time, things didn’t go smoothly.

Chelsea dominated the game, with early goals from Lauren James and a first-half brace from Sjoeke Nusken. Arsenal managed to score late in the game, but it wasn’t enough, leaving them six points behind Chelsea in the title race.

After the match, Arsenal’s coach, Jonas Eidevall, explained that they only found out about the kit issue right before the game. Both teams had to deal with the problem, so it was fair, but it was still a hassle.

On the other side, Chelsea’s coach, Emma Hayes, saw the funny side of the situation. She joked about seeing Arsenal players wearing Chelsea symbols and defended Arsenal’s kit man, saying it was an honest mistake and not something to be criticized.
