Anthony Gordon Might Miss Brentford Game

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has revealed that Anthony Gordon might not play in their last game of the season against Brentford.

Newcastle is currently in seventh place in the Premier League and has a chance to qualify for the Europa League, the Conference League, or miss out on European competitions entirely. They are three points behind Chelsea, who are in sixth place. However, Chelsea’s goal difference is worse, so Newcastle will be hoping Bournemouth can beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Manchester United, who have the same points as Newcastle, are in eighth place and will be facing Brighton.

It’s been a tough season for Newcastle, with many ups and downs, especially with injuries. Gordon’s availability is uncertain after he hurt his ankle in a recent loss to Manchester United.

“We’re not sure yet if he can play,” Howe said on Friday. “We’ll check on him today. That tackle really affected him.”

The good news for Newcastle is that Joelinton, Nick Pope, and Fabian Schar are expected to return to the lineup after recovering from their injuries. Additionally, Callum Wilson is also set to be back in the squad.

“We expect Wilson to be fit,” said Howe. “When he’s not available, we definitely feel his absence. His personality and experience are important for the team. Plus, having him allows us to play with two strikers or rotate more effectively. When we have only one striker, it puts more pressure on the others.”
