Chelsea wants Sonia Bompastor to be their new coach after Emma Hayes leaves. But it won’t be easy to get her from Lyon, where she’s currently coaching.

Hayes is leaving Chelsea to coach the United States women’s national team after this season.

Chelsea really wants Bompastor, who used to coach the French national team. She’s interested in talking with Chelsea.

But Lyon, who has won the Champions League eight times, doesn’t want to let her go. Bompastor still has 16 months left on her contract with Lyon, so they might ask for a lot of money to let her leave.

The talks will probably speed up next week during the international break.

Chelsea has been taking their time to find a new coach. Hayes has been in charge for 12 years and has won many titles.

Casey Stoney and Laura Harvey decided to stay with their clubs in the US after being interviewed for the Chelsea job.

Carla Ward from Aston Villa and Tanya Ward, who worked with Hayes before, were also considered.

Some of Chelsea’s top players prefer a female coach.

Hayes is working with others to find her replacement.

Chelsea, who are leading the WSL, have a big game against Manchester City on Friday.
