Meet the Stars of the Champions League Team of the Year

Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen, who’s been rocking it at Borussia Dortmund, just scored a spot in the Champions League’s top squad. UEFA dropped the news on Monday, and Maatsen’s nabbed the left-back position. The team’s got a heavy German and Real Madrid vibe.

Looks like Dortmund’s digging Maatsen’s style and might keep him for good after his loan. He’s played seven times in Europe, even scored a goal, and helped the team get to second place.

Joining him from Dortmund are Mats Hummels, Marcel Sabitzer, and goalie Gregor Kobel. They’ve all been picked by UEFA’s big brains to be in the Team of the Year.

Jude Bellingham, the whiz kid of the tournament, is leading a bunch of Real Madrid aces, including the guy who clinched the final, Dani Carvajal, tough defender Antonio Rudiger, and the super skilled Vinicius Jr.

Harry Kane from Bayern Munich is also in the mix after slamming in eight goals. He’s tied for top scorer with Kylian Mbappe, but Mbappe didn’t make the team cut.

Phil Foden from Manchester City wraps up the attack line, with PSG’s Vitinha holding down the midfield. This means some other awesome players like Bukayo Saka, Erling Haaland, and a few more didn’t make the list even though they had a great season.

And let’s not forget Fede Valverde’s epic volley that’s been crowned the Champions League’s best goal of the season.

So, here’s the dream team lineup for 2023-24: Kobel; Carvajal, Rudiger, Hummels, Maatsen; Vitinha, Sabitzer; Foden, Bellingham, Vinicius Jr; Kane. They’re the champs that everyone’s talking about!
