Chelsea make decision on Pochettino future as fans call for Mourinho

Mauricio Pochettino says he won’t give up on trying to change the minds of Chelsea fans who wanted him to leave during the Brentford match on Saturday.

But most hardcore Chelsea supporters don’t seem to support him anymore, and another tough weekend has made his future uncertain.

Chelsea will probably keep Pochettino until the end of the season. The people in charge at Stamford Bridge don’t want a repeat of last season’s mess when they fired Graham Potter in April and ended the season poorly.

But things at Chelsea are getting tense, and it doesn’t seem like it can last.

About 2,000 fans at the Gtech Community Stadium shouted for Pochettino to leave when Chelsea fell behind 2-1, though they managed to draw 2-2 eventually.

Some fans also called for Jose Mourinho instead, and they were angry with co-owner Todd Boehly for being at the Bahrain Grand Prix when Chelsea were struggling.

Chelsea are now far from the top four and behind West Ham.

Bringing back Mourinho doesn’t seem like a good idea with this young team, but fans don’t see Pochettino as the “winner” they’re used to.

Pochettino has struggled to connect with fans, partly because of his past with Tottenham. Fans didn’t like his decisions on Saturday, especially when he made only two substitutions despite the players being tired from three games in six days.

Pochettino admitted he doesn’t feel the fans’ support but isn’t worried about it.

Now, what’s next? Firing Pochettino might make some fans happy, but what about Chelsea’s future? Months of uncertainty before starting over in the summer?

Chelsea didn’t want Mourinho last summer and aren’t likely to try again, even though he’s available after being sacked by Roma.

Besides, would Mourinho be the right fit for this young team lacking confidence?

Pochettino still has support from the players, and the co-owners seem to back him for now. His position will probably be reviewed at the end of the season, especially if Chelsea fail to qualify for Europe.

It’s clear fans aren’t happy with how Chelsea are being managed. Many feel like a lot of money has been wasted, and the club’s spirit is gone. Fans don’t like seeing young academy players being sold off, especially with concerns about following Premier League rules about finances.

At the same time, fans expect ticket prices to go up in the summer.

Pochettino is in a tough spot after his unhappy 52nd birthday on Saturday. Fixing the problems at Chelsea won’t be quick, and fans are running out of patience.

With a whole week until Newcastle comes to Stamford Bridge next Monday, Pochettino needs the owners to stay strong.
