Chelsea Owners Face Backlash from Jamie Carragher for ‘Biggest Shock’ This Season

Chelsea Football Club has made a surprising move by appointing their sixth manager since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over.

Football expert Jamie Carragher was stunned by Chelsea’s decision to change managers again, calling it the most unexpected event of the football season.

Recently, Chelsea announced that Mauricio Pochettino would leave after only one year, despite having a two-year agreement. According to sportrivia247, the split was friendly, with no bad blood between Pochettino and the club’s leadership.

Some thought Pochettino could have taken Chelsea higher than sixth place, but disagreements over the club’s direction were too significant to ignore.

Pochettino, who previously managed Tottenham, had a challenging first year back in English football. However, he succeeded in taking a young squad to European competition, the Carabao Cup final, and the FA Cup semi-final.

Chelsea has now hired Enzo Maresca, who led Leicester to victory in the Championship, on a five-year deal to replace Pochettino.

Maresca is the latest in a series of managers under Boehly, Eghbali, and Feliciano, including interim ones.

Chelsea’s owners regard Maresca similarly to Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta, who was mentored by Pep Guardiola of Manchester City.

Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, the co-sporting directors, recommended Maresca for his skills and potential, as well as his willingness to focus on player development rather than transfers.

Carragher, on the other hand, criticized the decision to let Pochettino go as foolish.

“The biggest surprise this season,” he said to The Metro, “was Chelsea’s decision. I couldn’t believe it. It’s just another in a series of foolish choices by Chelsea.”

Maresca will officially start on July 1, but he plans to give Chelsea players online tools to study game tactics before the season starts.
