Chelsea’s penalty claims at Anfield not part of VAR audio review show

The Premier League has just released new audio clips from VAR (Video Assistant Referee) for the end of January and the start of February.

Chelsea hasn’t had many controversial moments lately, but there were a couple of standout incidents. Two penalty appeals during their game against Liverpool were turned down at the end of January, which ended in a 4-1 defeat for Chelsea.

Many people thought those appeals should have been penalties, so it’s surprising that the Premier League didn’t give more details in their latest ‘Match Officials Mic’d Up’ feature. This feature usually has Howard Webb and Michael Owen discussing controversial decisions from the past month.

Instead of focusing on Chelsea’s incidents, the Premier League decided to share audio from matches like West Ham vs Sheffield Utd, Newcastle vs Bournemouth, Sheffield Utd vs Brighton, Everton vs Tottenham, and West Ham vs Bournemouth. These matches had less controversial moments compared to Chelsea’s penalties.

Just to clarify, the Premier League’s audio review covers incidents from Matchweek 22 to 26, with the Chelsea vs Liverpool game falling under Matchweek 22.

Penalty decisions in the Premier League have been inconsistent all season, and not having explanations for these incidents will disappoint Chelsea fans. They were hoping this show would give them more insight into why certain decisions were made.
