Chelsea Finishes Strong: Pochettino’s Future Still Uncertain

Chelsea’s manager, Mauricio Pochettino, recently guided the team to a top-six finish on the final day of the Premier League season. However, the uncertainty around his future with the club remains.

Pochettino was scheduled to meet with co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, as well as the club’s owners, next week for a performance review that would determine his future. But after a 2-1 victory over Bournemouth, which marked their fifth straight win and secured European football for next season, he’s not sure if those talks will still happen.

“I don’t know if that is going to happen or not — I have no idea about this,” Pochettino said. Despite the ambiguity, he did have dinner with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly on Friday night. “It was a very nice dinner together,” he added, but mentioned he wasn’t aware of any review meeting.

“My staff is flying out tomorrow. Unless we’re told to stay tonight, they’re going on their holidays. I’ll be in London a few more days, and my phone will be on,” Pochettino continued.

When asked about the nature of his discussions with Boehly during their dinner, Pochettino said, “I’m not going to speak more about it. But if I invite you for dinner, it’s not for a bad reason. If there’s something important, I’d call or have a coffee, not a dinner.”

Reflecting on the season, Pochettino said, “Even during tough times, the team showed respect and believed in our work. They’ll be better next season because they’ve gained valuable experience. We’ll likely keep 80 to 85 percent of the squad, focusing on continuity and our ideas.”

As for summer player recruitment, Pochettino commented, “That’s a club decision. We’re here to help if needed, but we’ll do our job either way.”

Chelsea fans can look forward to next season with optimism, but the club’s leadership and Pochettino’s role still hang in the balance.
