Euro 2024 Star Reveals £35m Transfer Path to Chelsea & Liverpool

Giorgi Mamardashvili, Georgia’s standout goalkeeper, has made it clear he won’t transfer this summer just to sit on the bench.

Mamardashvili shone at Euro 2024, helping Georgia reach the knockout stages in their first-ever major tournament before their defeat to Spain. His impressive performance has attracted interest from top clubs, with rumors suggesting his move could cost around £35 million.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle, and Bayern Munich have all been linked to the 23-year-old Valencia player. However, Mamardashvili has made his stance clear after Georgia’s Euros exit: he won’t move to Bayern Munich to be an understudy to Manuel Neuer.

“Bayern still have the best goalkeeper in the world,” he told Sky Sports in Germany. “Therefore, it’s currently not possible to move there. I would only go there if I’ll play. If I don’t play, then no.”

Liverpool already have Alisson Becker, 31, under contract until 2027. While finding a long-term replacement like Mamardashvili is on their radar, they might need to sign a backup this summer if Caoimhin Kelleher leaves.

New Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic for the upcoming season, along with returning Real Madrid loanee Kepa Arrizabalaga. However, a move for a new keeper isn’t off the table if they find buyers for their current options.

Meanwhile, Newcastle just signed Greek goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos to compete with Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka.
