Surprise hit Football Australia when they found out that their captain, Sam Kerr from Chelsea, is going to trial next year. They only learned about it last night.

Kerr had to appear in Kingston Crown Court on Monday through a video call. She said she didn’t do what she’s accused of – racially harassing a police officer. This accusation is from an event last year on January 30. It’s said that Kerr used words that upset a Met Police officer who was dealing with a taxi issue.

Her trial is set for February next year and will last four days.

This news shocked Australian soccer. The FA there didn’t know Kerr was going to court on Monday. They were busy planning press events to talk about two friendly games against China for the Olympics, but Kerr’s situation became the main topic.

Kerr won’t be playing for the rest of the season because of a knee injury. As captain, she might face more questions because of this, but no decisions have been made yet.

James Johnson, the head of Football Australia, said, ‘I found out about this news just like everyone else did this morning. We’re trying to understand what’s going on. Kerr says she’s innocent, and we should respect that while we figure things out.
