Enzo Fernandez Named in Argentina’s Provisional Squad for Copa America

Chelsea’s midfielder, Enzo Fernandez, has made it into the provisional Argentina squad for this summer’s Copa America.

The 23-year-old missed the last six games of the season due to a hernia surgery but was crucial in helping Chelsea secure a top-six finish and a potential spot in the Europa League. Fernandez shared that he had been dealing with hernia pain for the past six months.

Despite the surgery, there was hope that Fernandez would recover in time for the Copa America, which kicks off in the United States on June 20, 2024.

Tottenham’s Giovani Lo Celso is also part of the provisional squad. He won’t be joining Spurs for their friendly against Newcastle in Melbourne this week.

Argentina, the reigning world champions, will be defending their Copa America title. They won it last in 2021. Before the tournament, they have friendly matches lined up against Ecuador and Guatemala in June. Their first tournament game is against Canada on June 21.

Three players will be cut from Lionel Scaloni’s squad before the tournament begins.
