John Barnes sent a message to the West Ham captain over his next move

Former footballer John Barnes has voiced his opinion on why he believes West Ham captain Declan Rice should prioritize a move to Arsenal over Manchester City. As the transfer saga surrounding Rice continues to unfold, both Arsenal and Manchester City are vying for the talented midfielder’s signature, aiming to strengthen their respective squads.

While Arsenal was initially seen as the front-runners in the race to sign Rice, multiple unsuccessful bids have given Manchester City renewed hope of securing the 24-year-old’s services. However, John Barnes suggests that Rice should consider a move to North London and join Arsenal, citing several reasons why it could be a beneficial career move for the talented player.

One significant factor Barnes points out is that joining Arsenal would see Rice strengthen a team that challenged for the Premier League title last season. Arsenal displayed significant improvements under manager Mikel Arteta, finishing second in the league and narrowly missing out on the top spot. The potential to contribute to a team with title aspirations and build upon the progress made in the previous campaign could be an enticing prospect for Rice.

Moreover, Barnes mentions the potential leadership role Rice could assume at Arsenal. With his qualities on and off the pitch, Rice has been tipped as a future captain for the Gunners. Joining a club that values his leadership attributes and offers the opportunity to grow into a prominent role within the team could be an influential factor in Rice’s decision-making process.

On the other hand, a move to Manchester City would see Rice join a club that achieved a stunning treble last season and work under the guidance of one of the greatest managers in history, Pep Guardiola. The allure of playing for a team that has established itself as a dominant force in English football could be a strong incentive for Rice to join the ranks of the reigning Premier League champions.

Ultimately, the decision lies with Declan Rice himself, considering his personal aspirations, ambitions, and the direction in which he believes his career will thrive the most. While Barnes advocates for a move to Arsenal, it is important to recognize that each player has their own unique set of considerations when it comes to making such a significant career choice.

As the transfer saga unfolds, fans eagerly await the outcome and the final decision of Declan Rice. Whether he chooses Arsenal or Manchester City, his talent and potential are undeniable, and his presence will undoubtedly make a significant impact on whichever team he joins.

‘Arsenal have made two bids for which will probably get up to £100m so Arsenal makes more sense,’ former England star Barnes told futfanatico.com.

‘Not because they’re better than Man City but because Arsenal are more interested and I think he wants to go to Arsenal. That will be the best thing for him.

Declan Rice has been urged to join Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal

‘Rice will fit into Arsenal’s way of playing in that holding midfield role. £100m for Rice means he goes straight into that Arsenal team as the holding midfielder.

‘Protecting that back four and bringing solidity, which is what the Arsenal team needs.

‘I don’t think Manchester City are as interested in Declan Rice because they’ve got Rodri. And I don’t think Pep wants two holding midfielders.’

While West Ham are ready to sell Rice, they are holding out for an offer worth £100m. Rice has made 245 appearances for the Hammers and 43 for England.
