Juventus join Chelsea & others at Club World Cup + How it works

Juventus has become the 10th team from Europe to qualify for the bigger FIFA Club World Cup happening in the United States.

After Napoli got knocked out of this season’s Champions League, Juventus made sure they’ll finish higher than Napoli in the rankings. They’ll be alongside Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, PSG, Inter, Porto, Benfica, and Borussia Dortmund.

When does the tournament start?

The tournament kicks off on June 15th, but we don’t know the exact venues yet. What we do know is that it’ll all happen in the United States. The final match is set for July 13th.

How does the Club World Cup work?

It’s a bit like the regular World Cup. Teams are split into eight groups of four. The top two from each group move on to the round of 16. In total, teams in the final will play 7 matches over 29 days.

Who’s qualified?

Chelsea was the first team to secure a spot in the tournament back in 2021 for winning the UEFA Champions League. They’ll be joined by the winners of the 2022, 2023, and 2024 Champions League, as well as the top 8 teams in the UEFA rankings.

Other continents have similar ways of qualifying. Here are the teams confirmed so far:

UEFA: Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Winner of 2024 UCL, Bayern Munich, PSG, Inter, Porto, Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, TBC.

CAF: Al Ahly SC, Wydad AC, TBC TBC

AFC: Al Hilal SFC, Urawa Red Diamonds, TBC TBC

CONCACAF: CF Monterrey, Seattle Sounders, Club León, TBC

OFC: Auckland City

CONMEBOL: Palmeiras, Flamengo, Fluminense, TBC TBC TBC
