Chelsea physiotherapist Steve Hughes is leaving the club after more than 22 years. This news comes after medical director Dimitrios Kalogiannidis and several others have also left.

The club has known about Hughes’ departure since September, when they informed staff via email. This continues a trend of changes in the medical department at Stamford Bridge. Kalogiannidis left last month, and before him, Paco Biosca departed in October 2022, followed by head physio Thierry Laurent the next month.

After the World Cup, physios Jose Calvarro, Jason Palmer, and Jon Fearn, who each served around ten years, also left.

Currently, Chris Hughes serves as the first-team doctor, with Martin Baker as the main first-team physiotherapist. Fearghal Kerin has been hired from Leinster Rugby as a rehabilitation physiotherapist, and Dave Fevre is working as a consultant.

Chelsea is facing a higher number of hamstring injuries than expected this season. They plan to hire more specialists before the season ends. Ed Richmond is reportedly set to join Chelsea’s physio department from Leicester, according to Training Ground Guru.
