Mauricio Pochettino’s Unexpected Return to Stamford Bridge

On Tuesday, Mauricio Pochettino stepped down from his role as Chelsea’s manager, but he will be back at Stamford Bridge sooner than anyone expected.

Pochettino and Chelsea parted ways by mutual agreement after just under a year. During his time in charge, he led the team to a sixth-place finish, winning their last five games of the season. However, disagreements with the club’s co-owners, Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, particularly about player sales, led to his departure. Now, Chelsea is searching for their sixth manager in less than two years.

Pochettino’s coaching team, including Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez, and Sebastiano Pochettino, have also left the club. But they won’t be unemployed for long—they’ve already signed up for a special return to Stamford Bridge for Soccer Aid!

In March, it was announced that Pochettino would manage the World XI team in the annual charity match, as he did last year at Old Trafford. Perez will join him, but this time they’ll be in the away team’s dugout.

Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard will also be back at Stamford Bridge, coaching the England team alongside Harry Redknapp and Robbie Williams.

Soccer Aid for UNICEF takes place on Sunday, June 9th, at Stamford Bridge. Tickets are available now at socceraid.org.uk/tickets.
