Mauricio Pochettino hails Chelsea’s ‘amazing professionals’ as Tottenham set-piece problem exposed again

Chelsea’s manager, Mauricio Pochettino, praised the hard work of the team’s set-piece experts. Before their match against Tottenham, people were talking a lot about this part of the game. Tottenham has had trouble defending against set-pieces all season, but their manager, Ange Postecoglou, says it’s not the only reason they’ve been struggling.

Even though other teams like Arsenal and Liverpool have coaches just for set-pieces, Postecoglou isn’t keen on the idea for his team. Except for the Premier League’s lowest three teams and Nottingham Forest, nobody has conceded more goals from set-pieces than Tottenham this season.

Chelsea won 2-0 against Tottenham, scoring both goals from free-kicks. Trevoh Chalobah scored the first one with a great header, and Nicolas Jackson got the second with a rebound after Cole Palmer’s powerful shot.

Pochettino said, “We’re doing well. We’ve got great pros working on set-pieces, and the team showed how we want to play.

He denied that Chelsea focused specifically on exploiting Tottenham’s weakness in set-pieces. Pochettino pointed out that it’s not just Tottenham – lots of teams struggle with this, and it’s more about confidence and the situation.

He agreed with Postecoglou’s recent comments, saying there’s a lot of confusion around the issue, which can make it tough for decision-makers at the club.

With this win, Chelsea is still in the race for European qualification. They’re only three points behind Manchester United in sixth place and just two behind Newcastle in seventh.

But for Tottenham, getting into the Champions League is looking tough. They’re seven points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, though they do have a game in hand.
