On This Day: 2023- Chelsea sign Noni Madueke

A year ago today, Chelsea announced the arrival of Noni Madueke from PSV. The young English winger was the sixth player to join the blues in that month.

Madueke expressed his delight at joining “one of the best clubs in the world in Chelsea” on the club’s website.

However, Madueke’s first year at Chelsea has been challenging, as he has played under three different managers (not counting Bruno). He made his first appearance in the goalless draw with Fulham at home.

Madueke missed out on the Champions League squad due to registration rules that allowed only three new players. He was benched for Lampard’s first two games, but then got a chance to play seven consecutive games until the end of the season. He scored his maiden goal for Chelsea in the loss to Arsenal.

Madueke has found it hard to get regular game time under Pochettino, and there were rumours that the ex-Spurs youth player was unhappy with his situation.

Madueke has only started two games in the Premier League this season, the defeat to Brentford where he came close to scoring and the victory over Luton where he found the net.

Madueke seems to be improving his form, but the statistics show that he still has a lot of work to do to become a consistent performer at Chelsea.
