Pochettino was visibly frustrated in the first 45 minutes of Saturday’s 4-0 win over Preston.

He gave his players a stern talk at half-time when the score was 0-0 and they responded with four goals in the second half.

Pochettino told the media (via Daily Mail) after the game that his players had to improve their performance for the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Middlesbrough on Tuesday. He said,

“We have to respect every team we face. We can’t afford to start like that against Middlesbrough, it will be much harder.”

He added, “We have to show the right mentality. We have to match their intensity. I was not happy and neither were the players at half-time, but we changed our attitude in the second half.”

Pochettino’s words show that he is concerned about his team’s inconsistency despite their second-half display.
