Mauricio Pochettino believes that Thiago Silva, a veteran player for Chelsea, can learn valuable coaching skills by being around players much younger than him in the team’s dressing room. Silva, who will turn 40 in September, is starting to think about life after playing football, having recently begun his UEFA B Licence coaching qualification.

There have been hints that Silva might leave Chelsea when his contract ends, and his wife’s comments have caused some controversy. Despite this, Pochettino sees Silva benefiting from the challenging season Chelsea is having, especially in terms of learning about coaching from a younger group of players.

Pochettino explained that Silva has been on the bench in recent weeks due to a combination of injury and the good performance of other players like Trevoh Chalobah. He emphasized that the decision is based on merit rather than reputation or experience.

Silva is one of the few players left at Chelsea who played in the 2021 FA Cup final, highlighting the team’s transition and relative lack of experience. Pochettino acknowledges this and stresses the importance of supporting the younger players as they adapt to the pressures of playing for Chelsea.

Chelsea’s inconsistent performance has made success in domestic cup competitions crucial, with the team currently sitting 11th in the Premier League table. Pochettino has organized social events like barbecues to foster team spirit and unity among players and staff, aiming to create a positive atmosphere and a sense of belonging.

The arrival of Bernardo Cueva, a set-piece coach, underscores Chelsea’s commitment to strengthening various aspects of the team. Pochettino welcomes the addition, seeing it as an opportunity to improve and challenge the existing staff to strive for excellence.
