Quick Manager Appointment Expected at Chelsea Amid Squad Shock and Sadness

Chelsea is moving quickly to find a new manager after parting ways with Mauricio Pochettino. Some early names being considered include Ruben Amorim from Sporting Lisbon, Kieran McKenna from Ipswich, and Sebastian Hoeness from Stuttgart. Girona’s Michel and Leicester’s Enzo Maresca are also in the mix. Chelsea’s owners also admire Brentford’s Thomas Frank and respect Burnley’s Vincent Kompany.

Thomas Tuchel, a former Chelsea manager, won’t be coming back even though he’s available after leaving Bayern Munich. There are still hard feelings from when he left Chelsea in 2022, so neither side is interested in a reunion. Hansi Flick, former Bayern and Germany manager, is also unlikely, as Chelsea wants a young, promising coach who can grow with the team.

Pochettino left Chelsea after a tough season and halfway through his contract. The players were shocked and upset by his departure, especially since he had just gotten the team back on track. Co-owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital are now looking for their third permanent manager in just over a year and need to make the right choice this time.

Pochettino joined Chelsea last summer with high hopes, but injuries and an imbalanced squad left the team struggling. Despite a strong finish to the season and securing European qualification, it wasn’t enough to meet expectations. Tensions grew between Pochettino and the club’s owners and sporting directors, leading to his departure on good terms. Pochettino is already attracting interest from Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

Chelsea’s sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, thanked Pochettino for his work, saying he’s always welcome back. Pochettino also expressed gratitude for the opportunity and wished the club well for the future.
