Chelsea Football Club is excited to announce Enzo Maresca as the new head coach. The 44-year-old Italian will start his role at Chelsea on July 1st, with a contract for five years and an option to extend for another year. He steps in after Mauricio Pochettino’s departure, who left the club on good terms after securing a spot in European competition next season.

Maresca was chosen over other candidates like Roberto De Zerbi, Thomas Frank, and Kieran McKenna, after leading Leicester to win the Championship this season. His coaching journey includes working with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and Manuel Pellegrini at West Ham. As a player, Maresca’s career spanned 19 years, playing for teams like Juventus and Sevilla.

He’s the third manager appointed by the club’s owners, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, in two years, following Graham Potter and Pochettino. The club’s owners are thrilled to have him join and are confident in his abilities to achieve the club’s goals.

Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, Chelsea’s co-sporting directors, praised Maresca as an outstanding coach with a strong drive and commitment to success. They’re looking forward to seeing him bring his vision and style to the team.
