VAR left Tom Cairney unhappy following Gusto’s tackle

The controversy is still raging after Chelsea’s close win over their West London neighbours Fulham at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s defender, Malo Gusto, might have been fortunate to stay on the field after his challenge on ex-blue, Willian.

Tom Cairney, Fulham’s midfielder, was not happy at all after the match and he expressed his displeasure mildly.

Cairney said to the Daily Mail after the match, “He has caught him cleanly. He has shin pads but he has caught him high and that’s not allowed in modern football. We looked at it on the laptop during the break and his whole boot is on his leg.”

Cairney also confirmed that the decision was reviewed by VAR. “We questioned the ref at that moment and he said it had been checked by VAR, so we are baffled. I am very baffled, that’s usually an instant red. Perhaps you don’t get these things when you’re away. It is odd.”

Chelsea have suffered from bad calls this season and Fulham were also lucky to finish the previous match in October with eleven men on the field. The blues can consider themselves fortunate this time.
