West Ham star ‘an hour away’ from joining Chelsea

West Ham player Edson Alvarez recently shared that he almost joined Chelsea before signing with West Ham. Alvarez has been performing exceptionally well for West Ham this season, stepping in after Declan Rice’s move to Arsenal last summer.
Back in 2022, Alvarez was on the verge of heading to Chelsea. He explained that he was about to board a plane when Ajax, his then-club, intervened. “Actually, in my third year at Ajax, I was supposed to go to Chelsea. The plane was ready at the airport. But Ajax stopped me,” Alvarez said during an interview.
Despite some doubters, Alvarez is content with where he is now. He reflected, “Whether people believe it or not, it doesn’t make any difference to me. I’m here, living this experience.”
He emphasized the close call, saying, “I was just an hour away from boarding the plane to sign with Chelsea when Ajax said I couldn’t leave. So, when you’re told you’re not going, what choice do you have? You stay.
