Mauricio Pochettino Leaves Chelsea: Who Will Be the Next Manager?

Mauricio Pochettino has left Chelsea by mutual consent after just one year of his two-year contract. The decision was made after a post-season review, marking the end of the former Tottenham manager’s short stint with the Blues.

Chelsea is now on the hunt for a new manager, and several names are already being considered. Leading the list are Ruben Amorim, Kieran McKenna, and Sebastian Hoeness.

Top Contenders for Chelsea’s Next Manager:

  • Ruben Amorim: The 39-year-old Sporting Lisbon manager has been admired by Chelsea’s new owners since they took over in May 2022. Although Sporting Lisbon recently extended Amorim’s contract by another year and are determined to keep him, Chelsea has been keeping a close eye on him.
  • Kieran McKenna: Currently managing Ipswich, McKenna has impressed by leading his team from League One to the Premier League in just two seasons. His adventurous, possession-based style has also caught the attention of Brighton, who need a new coach to replace Roberto De Zerbi. The 38-year-old former Manchester United assistant has built a solid reputation for his innovative approach.
  • Sebastian Hoeness: The 42-year-old has done a remarkable job with Stuttgart, securing a second-place finish in the Bundesliga, even ahead of Bayern Munich. Coming from a prominent footballing family, Hoeness has football in his blood. His father, Dieter Hoeness, and uncle, Uli Hoeness, were both stars for Germany and key figures at Bayern Munich.

Other Potential Candidates:

  • Michel (Girona)
  • Enzo Maresca (Leicester)
  • Thomas Frank (Brentford)

Chelsea’s new owners are focused on finding a young, ambitious manager who can lead the team long-term. This approach aligns with the strategy they use with the Los Angeles Dodgers, a baseball team they also own. The Dodgers have seen great success by investing in developing talents over the long haul, a model the Chelsea owners hope will eventually pay off in football.

Chelsea’s search for a new manager will be led by co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart. However, the final decision will be made by co-owners Todd Boehly, Behdad Eghbali, and Jose Feliciano.
