Why Chelsea’s FA Cup clash with Aston Villa has been moved

Due to fixture conflicts across the country, Chelsea’s FA Cup 4th round match against Aston Villa has been rescheduled.

The game was supposed to happen on Saturday January 27th at 3pm, but it will now happen on the previous day at 7.45pm (UK) on the 26th.

The game will NOT be shown on UK TV. The broadcasters have chosen Manchester City’s cup game against Tottenham instead.

Chelsea have explained the reason for the change; “Friday, 26 January is the only day the game can happen. This is because Fulham will play at home against Newcastle United, their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool is on 24 January, and Aston Villa will play in the Premier League on January 30.“

This could be seen as an unfair advantage for Chelsea, as they will play Middlesbrough on the Tuesday.

If the game is tied after 90 minutes, a replay will happen at Villa Park before the 5th round. This is the last round before replays are eliminated.
