According to reports, Jorginho of Chelsea cost Arsenal £12 million.

Jorginho, an Italian international, is scheduled to join Arsenal from Chelsea on the final day of the transfer window and is the ideal addition as Thomas Partey’s backup.

According to reports, the Gunners and the 31-year-old midfielder have reached an agreement on a £12 million transfer fee as they aim to bolster their Premier League championship defense.

Mikel Arteta wanted to sign Moises Caicedo, but Brighton turned down two offers, so the north London club went to Jorginho, who was prepared to accept a contract until 2024 from Arsenal with an additional year’s option.

Before the January transfer window closes at 11 p.m., Arsenal hopes to finalize and announce the signing of Jorginho. Metro.co.uk argues why the Euro 2020 winner would be a wise acquisition for the team.

Arsenal needs a midfielder badly considering their current injury situation. In Friday’s 1-0 FA Cup loss to Manchester City, Thomas Partey, who already missed a stretch of four Premier League games this season due to thigh issues, took a blow to the ribs and was replaced at halftime.

Partey’s chances of playing against Everton on Saturday are good, but Mikel Arteta recently said that fellow midfielder Mohamed Elneny, who has a knee injury, might miss the rest of the season. Emile Smith Rowe, who has been sidelined for the majority of the 2022–23 season with a groin issue, is also still out.

After replacing Partey in the FA Cup loss to City, Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga struggled to make an impact and appeared to rage down the tunnel. He is now mentioned in relation to a deadline-day loan to Crystal Palace.

Jorginho might fill the vacuum as Arsenal seeks to win their first Premier League championship since 2004 given that January deals for Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice appear to be highly unlikely.

Similar stats to Partey

Jorginho and Thomas Partey have surprisingly similar statistics when compared over their Premier League matches this year.

Jorginho outpaces Partey in terms of total tackles made per game (2.95 vs. 2.32), and he also ranks higher in terms of interceptions (1.48 vs. 1.23).

Partey averages 58.24 completed passes per game compared to Jorginho’s 52.48, however this could mostly be attributed to the different playing styles of the two clubs.

In addition, Jorginho outperforms Partey in both ball recoveries and forward passing percentage (8.36 and 30.97% respectively) compared to the Chelsea midfielder. That surpasses Partey’s 8.01 and 28.98% for each contest.

He’s a born winner

One of the primary arguments made by supporters and analysts is that Arsenal may not win the Premier League championship this year because of their youthful team, lack of experience, and lack of depth when compared to league leaders Manchester City.

Jorginho, who is 31 years old and has won some of the major football championships, would add depth to the team as well as assist instill a winning culture in the locker room, which might be essential in the season’s closing weeks.

While playing at Chelsea, Jorginho won the Champions League, Europa League, Super Cup, and Club World Cup. He has also participated in three FA Cup finals and two Carabao Cup finals. He was at Napoli

He has 46 caps for Italy and was selected for the Tournament Team after playing a significant part in their Euro 2020 victory. He was also named the 2020–21 UEFA Men’s Player of the Year. If Arsenal were to sign Jorginho on the final day of the transfer window, he would be a great addition to the team because he is clearly destined to win.
